This play with music is inspired by actual events surrounding the controversial 1923 Bway debut of Sholem Asch's God of Vengeance, a play seen by some as a groundbreaking work of Jewish culture but which was shut down after the policy charged cast members with obscenity, in part because it depicted a lesbian relationship.
Playwright Paula Vogel won the Pulitzer Price for How I Learned to Drive. This production marks her Bway debut.
