Torch Song

After a sold-out run off Bway, Harvey Fierstein's Torch Song moves to Bway for a limited run. The new production, edited by Fierstein, is based on his Torch Song Trilogy (which he starred in and wrote), and which won him Tonys for Best Play and Best Actor.

Tony and Oscar winner Mercedes Ruehl (Lost in Yonkers, Married to the Mob, The Fisher King) and Drama Desk winner Michael Urie (Buyer and Seller, Ugly Betty) co-star. The play tells the story of Arnold Beckoff, a torch singer in drag (Urie) who longs for a husband and family and the respect of his mother (Ruehl).

The NYTimes called the off-Bway production "Irresistible, stirring and vibrant. Urie and Ruehl are two ideally matched performers at the top or their games. Burning with emotion behind the laughs.
