The newly imagined and acclaimed West End production of Miss Saigon, is set in Saigon in 1975 during the final days of the Vietnam War. The story is about a doomed romance between Kim, a 17-year-old orphan working as a bargirl in a sleazy nightclub, and an American G.I. The show is loosely based on Puccini's opera Madama Butterfly.
The UK's two stars, Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones, reprise their roles on Bway. The New York Times said: "Ms. Noblezada proves a sensation in the part. Watch...[her] grow in front of you as a performer even as Kim's world gives way to grief, and see if her character's pain center-stage doesn't become yours, as well."
Revisions have been made to the original show--new orchestrations, a new song, a new look, and a focus on the characters rather than the helicopter. Producer Cameron Mackintosh called the new production "less operatic than the original, and much grittier."
